Our daughter Noreen attends St. Ciarans’s and is a resident of the Group Home there. Its nice to visit her and to see he...

The Sunshine Club was set up in Spring 2012.  The Group members from R.S.W. wanted to extend an invitation to interested older members from other services to meet up and have a chat and a cup of tea.  Initially we had 9 members.  Today we have over 20 people attending from R.S.W., Rehab Care, Ballytivnan Resource Centre and Ballytivnan Training Centre.

We meet every week in our club on Knappaghbeg Road, and each week we plan what activities we will do the following week.  The Group have a sense of ownership of their club.  They have chosen the name, the logo and recently have registered the Group as an Active Retirement Group.

We have formed a partnership with Calry Active Age Retirement Group, and are currently working with their Development Worker and this will be beneficial in widening our social circle, and are planning to have a tea dance and meet up for various other activities.

We believe that it is important to create and maintain links with community groups, and raise awareness of activities/events/services which are available or taking place in the local community.  We enjoy guest speakers coming in to our club and informing us of various services that we can avail of, e.g Lend a hand scheme.

We would also like to thank all of our supporting partners including,

Sligo Leader Partnership, H.S.E. Health Promotion Unit, Sligo Sports and Recreation Partnership and Calry Active Age Group.

We would like to engage with other groups but unfortunately we are unable to do so as we have no transport.  We have all our staff and friends shopping at MACE and collecting tokens to win a Minibus.  So fingers and toes crossed.

Willlie sorting out some of the completed cards from MACE.
