A Message from the Services Manager.

Hope you all had a nice summer and as we return to our different services we feel the following information should be shared with you on important developments within North West Parents and Friends Association in our catchment area Sligo/Leitrim this year.

Day Services

R.S.W.

Cleveragh Ind Estate,

Sligo.

  • Service Users and Staff were delighted to have the Tánaiste Joan Burton and Senator Susan O’Keeffe visit on 20th July, 2015 to celebrate W.B. Yeats 150th Birthday.
  • The day service continues to provide a quality person centred service to adults, Monday to Friday.
  • New programmes and activities continue to be developed depending on need and funding with our most recent activities

-          Digital Media Classes

-          Snooker mornings

-          Attend the local Men’s Shed Group.

St.Ciarans Day Service,Summerhill,Carrick-on-Shannon,

Co.Leitrim

  • Day Service operating at full capacity and continue to provide a quality person centred service to adults
  • Adults attended AQUA Aerobics in theLoughAllenHotel, Drumshanbo, funded by Leitrim Sports Partnership Group.
  • Zumba classes continue in St. Ciaran’s and again this is supported by Leitrim Sports Partnership Group.
C.R.C,Corballa,Co.Sligo
  • Additional social activities are being provided at our adult day service including:

-          Outings every week

-          Music sessions are enjoyed weekly by all service users.

-          New mural painted on back wall of building by Art/Crafts tutor, staff and service users

-          Every Tuesday a dance/exercise tutor visits our Centre for classes.

HolyFamilyPre-School,

Ballytivnan,

Sligo.

  • Tulsa carry out unannounced pre-school inspections annually. We are delighted that an inspection carried out on 29th May 2015 reported compliance under the childcare pre -school regulations.
  • Aistear Training was provided to all staff in Holy Family recently by Sligo County Childcare Committee.
  • The two weeks summer camps arranged again this year went extremely well and activities were enjoyed by all.
  • We wish all our pre-school children leaving this year best wishes in their new placements.
  • We look forward and welcome all new children and families to theHolyFamilyPreSchoolfor September 2015.
Sunshine Club,Knappaghbeg,Strandhill Rd.,

Sligo.

  • This club is an interagency club for the older service user and meet every Wednesday morning.  This club have recently registered with the Active Age Retirement Group and look forward to creating links with other local community groups and raise awareness of activities/events/services which are available or take place in the local community.

School

St. Josephs Special School,

Ballytivnan,

Sligo.

St. Joseph’s School was chosen by Abbvie, the international pharmaceutical company, based inSligoas the project for their “Week of Possibilities 2015″.  Abbvie undertook to revamp and enhance the school to provide a more stimulating and welcoming learning environment for the students.  Over the course of a week in June, 250 volunteers, all workers in Abbvie’s two sites, donated 1500 hours of their skills and labour to give a much needed face lift to St. Joseph’s School.  The improvement works included painting the exterior of the school, painting over 75% of the school internally, refitting all the fluorescent light, a complete overhaul of the computer room, including the installation of eight new computers as well as a total rejuvenation of the school playground, the installation of a seating area in this playground, the repair and enhancement of the existing wall murals and the creation of new murals, and the complete renovation of the existing woodwork room completed this amazing project.  The Board of Management, the staff, the parent body and mostly importantly the students ofSt. Joseph’s are sincerely grateful to the management of Abbvie, the organising committee for the project and all the volunteers for all their hard work and their generosity.

Recreation and Social  Activities

 

  • All 3 Community Group Homes have now been registered with HIQA and are fully compliant with all the Standards.
  • Registration certificate is displayed in all our Homes.
  • A new buddy system has recently been set up for our service users by Volunteers within the Community.  This was one of the actions listed by HIQA and is working very well.  Visits to farms and social outings have taken place with different buddies.

 

 

 

  • Service users enjoy an outing once a month with the BEO befriending group which is an Interagency Group with mental health and the visually impaired.  This again is run by volunteers and 40 to 50 attend these outings monthly to different venues within the community.

  • This service has also been registered by HIQA
  • Adults attend this service on a full time basis and some attend on a shared care basis.
  • Social outings take place every week-end to local parks, café, restaurants etc.

Children’s Respite

Sunbeam House,

Summerhill,

Carrick-on-Shannon,

Co.Leitrim

  • We have had 1 monitoring visit carried out by HIQA.  Action plans developed and implemented.
  • Just completed new wet room for service users.
  • Fundraising continues to build a new purpose built Respite Service for Children in the Carrick-on-Shannon area.

H.I.Q.A. All our HIQA reports are available on line www. HIQA reports under Disability Services Reports and we are filed under North West Parents and Friends Association.
P.Q.A.S.S.O.(Practical Quality Assurance System for Small Organisations) North West Parents and Friends Association commenced work on a Quality Mark in February 2012.  We are nearly complete and hope to apply for accreditation at the end of this year.In conjunction with this we will be issuing in the near future a “Satisfaction Survey” to a selected number of families regarding our Service so your co-operation with this would be much appreciated.www.ces-vol.org.uk
